TRAUMA COUNSELLING
The Road Ahead NI provides free professional trauma counselling support to help individuals (adults and children) process the emotional and psychological impact of road trauma, grief, or sudden loss.
Road traffic collisions can affect every aspect of a person's life, not only for those directly involved but also for family members, witnesses, first responders, and others impacted by the event. The effects can be immediate or emerge months or even years later, often resulting in anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, grief, sleep difficulties, flashbacks, panic attacks, and a loss of confidence in everyday activities.
To ensure support is accessible across Northern Ireland, The Road Ahead NI commissions the services of over 20 qualified, trauma-informed counsellors located throughout the region. This allows us to match individuals with a counsellor as close to their home as possible, reducing the need for lengthy travel at a time when attending appointments may already feel overwhelming.
Our counsellors provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space where individuals can explore their experiences, process difficult emotions, and make sense of what has happened. Through evidence-based therapeutic support, we help people develop healthy coping strategies, strengthen emotional resilience, and work towards healing and recovery at a pace that feels right for them.
For those who are unable to attend appointments in person due to location, health, caring responsibilities, work commitments, or personal preference, we can also offer online counselling sessions, ensuring that support remains accessible when and where it is needed most.
Whether someone is struggling with a recent incident or carrying the effects of road trauma from many years ago, our counselling service offers compassionate support, understanding, and hope. Our aim is to help individuals regain confidence, rebuild their lives, and move forward with greater strength and wellbeing.
