What People Say About Our Support
Every person's journey following road trauma is unique, but the impact of being listened to, understood, and supported can make a profound difference. We are privileged to walk alongside individuals and families during some of the most difficult times in their lives, and we are grateful to those who have shared their experiences of The Road Ahead NI.
“The support from the Road Ahead NI has been a life line for our family. After our 18 year old son was killed in a car accident we did not know were to turn for help. I reached out to Monica who called to our house. she spoke to us honestly and showed us so much kindness and understanding and made us feel that we weren't alone. They have provided funding for counselling for my children who are finding it hard to cope with the loss of their brother. Myself and my daughter have attended some of the therapeutic workshops which we found very helpful. We have met other families who are in the same heart breaking situation and it has been good for us to talk to people who know what we are going through. We would be lost without the understanding, care and support of The Road Ahead we can't thank them enough”.
“Working with the Road Ahead NI has allowed my family to feel like we have the support of a community of people who really know what we have went through. They know how to support us and give tips on coping mechanisms. Monica and Jenny have been fantastic”.

This has included one-to-one counselling, tailored individual support, structured workshops, and organised events designed to help young people process and cope with the significant grief and trauma they are experiencing. Through these initiatives, the organisation has created safe and supportive environments where children can express their emotions, develop coping strategies, and build resilience. Their work plays a vital role in helping young people navigate the complex and ongoing impact of loss, supporting them towards improved emotional wellbeing and stability during an exceptionally difficult time. Importantly, Road Ahead offers a consistent and reassuring presence for families, remaining accessible and supportive whenever needed. Their attendance at remembrance and memory events demonstrates a deep commitment to ensuring that loved ones are honoured and never forgotten. This dedication extends not only to our son, but to the many other families facing similar heart-breaking circumstances, providing a sense of continuity, recognition, and shared support during an incredibly difficult journey. While carrying their on grief”.
“The Road Ahead NI has played a huge role in rebuilding my confidence and helping me see life from a different perspective.
Through their support, I’ve realised I’m not alone in my journey. They’ve helped me access vital services like counselling, financial assistance, and support through grief after losing a family member.
Their understanding and guidance have made a difficult time feel more manageable, and I’m now able to move forward with better understanding of the emotions I'm feeling and ways of coping with them”.
“I previously had been involved in a few road collisions, and had issues with driving. I previously did lessons and passed my driving test but the whole time and after, the thought of driving made me so stressed I felt physically sick and couldn’t eat or relax. That had been my whole driving journey to date until I stopped driving, realising that white knuckling and peoples well meaning advice to “just get behind the wheel for more hours” wasn’t fixing the problem. I found Road Ahead by accident and realised I am exactly who they support, and met with a counsellor, realising I had work to do on it, reshaping my mind and reframing my thoughts. After 4/5 sessions and homework in between, more so mental homework, I found myself eager to drive as the major blockages/problems, just weren’t there. I used to feel that driving was my biggest failure in life and it was insurmountable, and it was without the help of this service. I was envious of people who could drive so easily, I knew they couldn’t be feeling what I was, and they weren’t. I know that now because I can jump in the car and go anywhere now. Now being a mother of two this is vital to my life. I couldn’t appreciate this service more, and no one but me will ever know the impact my life has had for the major betterment. No one can know what’s been lifted from me. The shame, the failure, the stress of expectation and falling short of that, all lifted”.
“I would be lost without this service and the people who run it. I felt lost, alone and completely overwhelmed and they are the only organisation that was available to help me properly”.
“This service has changed my life. I couldn’t drive before, I simply couldn’t, and after Road Ahead support and recommendations I am living a new life”.
“Such an amazing charity that so many family’s would be lost without . Keep up the amazing work”
